Pumpkin Bonfire

Pumpkin Bonfire Konenkii

I made this drink recipe again this past Halloween when we had some friends visiting. Our neighborhood has a lovely tradition of parents strolling the streets with their children - a little last minute socializing before the weather really gets cold here in the Northeast and some of us become shut-ins for a few months. We walked around the neighborhood streets with our kids and this yummy warm fall drink.

One of my friends requested that I bring this drink to her husband's birthday party a few weeks later and both its reputation and fans grew. I brought all the ingredients to the party ... and ended up making five batches that evening! Now, even the neighborhood kids often request Pumpkin Bonfires (without the rum, of course) after an afternoon of basketball, nerf gun games, and colossal Hide and Seek.

PUMPKIN BONFIRE, back by popular demand! This is one of 7 recipes from our Fall Konenkii Box.

The ingredients are the same, the technique here is different... and a lot easier.  I was familiar with this easy 'emulsification' technique from another beverage I am a fan of and I thought I might use that method for the Pumpkin Bonfire. it worked perfectly.

Makes 5-8 servings, depending on size of cup
In a blender, put:
1 stick of unsalted butter (yes, just do it)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/8 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (or 1/2 tsp grated fresh)
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
rum (optional)

Add 7-8 cups of hot water, making sure the blender is only 1/2 full. Blend for 20-30 seconds, until the mixture is light creamy brown with a beautiful froth on the top. Distribute between mugs, adding a shot of spiced rum to those who want to make it a bit more “adult”.

Don't these boys look happy? Even the pickiest boy here (there are two) loved the Pumpkin Bonfire. And for those who may wonder why my son has blue hair?  Because he's 11 and it was his school's Spirit Day (and its temporary)!  ;-)
