We’re sure that you, like many of us, are making a million lists this week…grocery lists, guest lists, to-do lists, a Christmas/Hanukkah, et al shopping list. But most important of all on this Thanksgiving holiday is that list of all those glorious things that make us grateful. It’s so simple to say “I’m grateful for my family, my friends, my life in general.” But as in writing, specifics make all the difference. So bore down on that tally, be thoughtful about those details about what makes life good. The older we get, the more we can appreciate both the small and the monumental moments…Here are a few of mine. Please share your Konenkii thoughts of thanks!
I am so grateful for:
*A grandmother who made me appreciate the beauty of a full moon and the glory of being barefoot.
*A mom who showed me the fun of holidays and joy of family gatherings.
*A sister who co-signed my mortgage after my divorce and goes to doctor’s appointments with me without my even asking!
*A daughter who laughs with me, finally appreciates NPR, and thanks me for showing her how to be thoughtful.
*A husband who cooks and fixes things around the house (and he’s cute to boot).
*Nieces and nephews who think I’m the cool aunt (or maybe I’m just projecting!)
And the fact that…
*…if I had to have cancers, they were Stage 2 and 0, respectively.
*….even though I lost my phone three times the other day, it was either in my car, at the nail place, or lurking at the bottom of my purse.
*…even when losing jobs can be horrid, what comes after can be remarkably grand!
*…friends new and old can occupy equal and important places in my heart, and I have a lot of them.
*…I can get in the car or on a plane at any time and discover something new!
*…I can spar with my brothers on matters political and still love them dearly.
*…the beach or a book is there to calm my nerves, and DVR and Netflix exist for binge-watching.
*…that my Honda starts up each and every morning, and that I have a garage so I don’t have to clean off the snow.
*…that crabcakes exist, and that salads and seafood and veggies can taste delicious.
*…that somehow I got the message that love trumps hate.
There are many more, and I am grateful for that…
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
